At Catches, we work with anglers who need practical help, quick turnaround and honest advice on rods, reels, bait and terminal tackle. If you take pride in good service and know your way around fishing gear, we would like to hear from you.

Careers

Why people stay with us

We are based in Springfield Park, Durban and serve anglers from the coast, inland dams and towns right across South Africa. Our team handles everything from everyday tackle questions to reel servicing and starter setups, so the work stays varied and hands-on.

Founded in 2008, Catches has grown through steady service, clear communication and a proper respect for the fishing community. We value people who can work neatly, learn fast and help customers choose the right gear for local conditions, whether that means salt spray, river weed or a windy harbour morning.

Roles we often hire for

We do not post an open vacancy list here, but we regularly look for people with experience in retail, fishing tackle, stock control and technical support. Depending on business needs, roles may include customer service, bait preparation, reel work, packing and dispatch, or support for online and phone orders.

  • Store and counter service for anglers buying rods, reels and consumables
  • Stock handling, receiving and replenishment
  • Reel servicing, repairs and line spooling support
  • Order processing for Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Gqeberha and East London

What we look for in a candidate

We want people who are dependable, calm under pressure and comfortable dealing with customers who know exactly what they need, or are starting from scratch. A good attitude matters as much as product knowledge.

  • Clear communication and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn about coastal and freshwater tackle
  • Care with stock, repairs and bait handling
  • Ability to work as part of a small team

Experience in fishing is useful, but it is not the only thing we look for. If you can work neatly, solve problems and treat customers with respect, that already counts for a lot.

How to apply

To apply, send your CV through the enquiry form on our contact page and tell us a bit about the kind of work you are looking for. If you have trade experience, mention the areas you have worked in, such as counter sales, tackle prep, spares, servicing or stock control.

Please include your town, contact details and any relevant experience. If your background is in fishing, retail or technical support, add that too. We review applications as they come in, so make sure your details are current and complete.

Working conditions and daily pace

Working in Durban means keeping an eye on coastal humidity, stock care and practical shop routines. Some days are steady, other days are busy with club orders, trip prep or customers getting ready for a weekend on the water.

  • Hands-on work with fishing gear, bait and accessories
  • Support for local anglers and out-of-town orders
  • Tasks that can change with season, weather and demand
  • Careful handling of reel parts, line and terminal tackle

We also understand the realities of load-shedding and municipal routines, so people who stay organised and adapt quickly tend to fit in well here.

A team that knows the water

Catches is led by Sibusiso Mthembu, with support from Ayesha Naidoo, Lwandle Dlamini, Pieter van Rooyen, Nokuthula Khumalo and Jason Petersen. Each person brings a specific skill, from coastal tackle advice to freshwater gear support and reel technical work.

If you want to build a career in a practical South African fishing business and work with people who know the trade, we would be pleased to hear from you. Attention to detail matters here, and so does showing up ready to work.
